As I take my first few steps into 2015 I find myself writing in a Starbucks in New York City. On top of that, I am drinking a Pumpkin Spiced Latte – I mean, how cliche can this situation be? At this moment I am happy, happier than ever.
Just before the start of this year I sat down with my best friend and wrote a list of things I will accomplish in 2015. This list will go with me wherever I will go folded up in my phone case – the thought of the list will subconsciously be on my mind every day bringing me one step closer to who I want to be. One of the things on the list was to write more, start a blog or a journal. Not for other people but for me. I want to get better as a writer and as a person and to have an outlet to express myself, my ideas and thoughts is invaluable to me.
So far in 2015 the overriding theme has been travel. I started off the year in Belfast, I then spent a day in London and after that swiftly took off to New York City where I will spend the first 3 and a half months of this year. The spectacle of this city is amazing to me – the towering buildings, the bustling streets and the vibrant atmosphere is unique and unforgettable. Don’t get me wrong its not an easy city, simply getting groceries yesterday at Trader Joe’s was an impossible task. However on the walk back to the apartment I saw a man walking his pig, an old New York City couple arguing about why he didn’t ever take her to lunch and a man pushing his possessions in a shopping trolley. I think these three scenes that took place in the space of 5 minutes accurately explains the diversity of this city.
Next time you drop by I invite you to walk down the streets and simply feel the atmosphere, take in your surroundings and keep your eye out for pig walkers!
Signing off for now,
